ANNOUNCEMENT:  Kamy’s Giveaway has been won by Old Kitty.  Congratulations, Kitty.
How does it feel to have your first book published? It must be very exciting!

Sometimes it still feels like a dream, especially now that people are reading and telling me what they think. It’s worse when people I know say things like, lots of action and really hot. I still refuse to send mum a copy.

Can you tell me a little about your characters in FALLING INTO PARADISE?

Damon is the delectable sheriff who decides that Sophie is his next conquest. Unfortunately Sophie isn’t going to fall into bed without setting some rules, but when she gets accused of malpractice, it brings up some past hurt that snowballs into disaster.

Did you have fun writing this novel?

I had a ball writing this book. It was nothing like I’d ever done before which is why it turned out so well and has so many heart wrenching moments. The initial writing of the book was just fun sitting there and letting it all out, but the editing was a lot more structured. I really thought about what was happening in the book and how it was going to affect the characters, this was a great experience for me and my editor made it complete.

Did you have a long journey from writing to publication?

It seems like a very long time but I never invested in this seriously as a profession until 2009 when I won my first contest, from then I started taking it looking at it differently. I was always conflicted as to which career path to follow, nursing or writing but then something changed and my decision was made, months later I had my first contract. Sometimes you have to shut the door for the window to open.

Are you a plotter? Do you plan your stories before writing? Or do you just start work and go where the muse takes you?

A year ago I would say pantser all the way but now I’ll say a little of both. What I found is you need a little bit of structure to figure out where your story is going. I’ll start of with an idea and I’ll know that certain things have to happen but sometimes things will happen that will surprise even me. Like when I started Falling into Paradise, the killerwas different than revealed in the book. That surprised me. I didn’t expect that.

I also didn’t expect Paige to enter the picture because let us face it, Damon doesn’t want to be a father, he is a playboy. That works for me.

Thanks for having me, I really do appreciate it. I will be giving away an ecopy of Falling Into Paradise.

Thank you for the giveaway, Kamy.  Readers, remember to leave a comment before you leave!

A woman too afraid to commit. A man too hurt to love again. A passion that refuses to be denied.

Sophie Redmond knew betrayal, she knew mistrust. She knew everything that was wrong with the world, until Damon Watson charmed his way into her life.

The rules she used to shield her heart were broken one by one, as Damon showed her compassion and kindness. When no one else believes in her, he shows her hope. But is hope ever enough?

Damon knew trouble when he saw it. He was the sheriff. He could spot it a mile away and Sophie was trouble with a capital T. What was it about this City Slicker doctor that made him want to forget everything but those whiskey brown eyes and that honey blonde hair spilled against his naked chest.

Can Damon put the past behind him and choose to love again?

  1. Hi Patsy- thanks for stopping by and Maria thanks for having me here. A lot of people don't realize that as writers the characters we write about have their own stories to tell and the best books are character driven meaning the characters tell the story:-)

  2. Hi Kamy!

Loved your answers to Maria's questions. Gave us insight into your writing life.

Thanks for sharing and congrats on the release of Falling Into Paradise!

    Thank you Maria!

  3. Hi again Kamy, Hi Maria. I love that you're visiting my favourite blogs Kamy! 🙂 I adored Falling into Paradise and I love the title. I have a bad habit of just checking out a first chapter when ever Im at work… bad habit in this case because first chapter went off with a bang! I couldnt put it down from there, and you're so right! Damon IS delectable 🙂

  4. It is fun when your characters go into free fall! It is also interesting to know how much is from the writer's personal experiences and how much from imagination, observation and reading habits.

Congrats Kamy Chetty on your first book–may you write many, many more.

  5. Interesting interview!
I agree with you Kamy, I'm a bit of both too. Started as pantser, then realized to be able to send submissions to my publisher, I need to think ahead and plot.
    Congrats and happy sales!

  6. Hi Kamy,

What an interesting journey for you. Nurse to author. And it seems you've found your niche. I started in medical research, then domestic engineer (stay at home mum 🙂 ), then I found writing and met the most wonderful people, until circumstances forced me to start a new career—as an editor—where I met more wonderful people. (Hi Maria!)

Lovely to see you in India today. I wonder if it's as hot as Melbourne when you were there earlier in the week! (It's still hot in Melbourne!)

Congratulations on your first sale. I have Falling Into Paradise on the TBR pile.

  7. Sometimes I wonder if it was a touch of insanity but those characters refused to leave me alone and when I woke up thinking about them, I knew what I had to do. Always believe in yourself:-) thanks for coming by:-)

  8. Thanks Carmen- I didn't want to shed my title because I thought it would make me boring and not such a great writer but it makes me write quicker and edit better. So here's to a bit of both:-)

  9. Thank you for coming over- it hasn't been an easy journey or one that I would have imagined. When I was growing up I wanted to be a nurse and even though I loved writing I never thought I'd be published but nursing took me to this point so funny how life turns out:-)Must have been meant to be some how and I never knew. It all began when she one day dreamed of becoming a nurse…

  10. Hi Serena, delighted to ee you over here. Yes, I agree, it has to be one fascinating career move, from nurse to author. And to think that Kamy wrote a full blooded thriller, not a medical romance. My first job was as a nurse's aide, but I didn't go on to become a nurse, I switched to office work. Now I'm editing and trying to become an author. All these different experiences will hopefully enrich my writing.
