Debut author Sandra Harris has just released her science fiction novel, ALIEN MINE. I don’t get to interview too any science fiction authors here on MBB, although I did interview Valerie Parv earlier this year on account of her science fiction novel BIRTHRIGHT. But the genre is less common, shall we say? Sandra has come all the way from sunny Australia to tell us about her book, so let’s read on and find out more……

ANNOUNCEMENT: The winner of Sandra’s giveaway is Shelly. Congratulations, Shelly.
What inspired you to become a writer?
I don’t know that there was any actual event that inspired me to be a writer. There was no, ‘Ah-ha! That’s what I want to be’ moment. I morphed into being a writer, starting with a suggestion from a friend that I write the stories in my head to eventually developing the determination to become a published author.
What is your preferred genre?
To read and write, I prefer science fiction romance.
Are you a plotter or a panster?
I’m evolving into a plotster. My first book was out-and-out panstering. So much so I had difficulty finding the ending! J The story just kept going. Now I plot the ‘acts’, but not to any great extent, I still like the surprise of discovery when my characters lead me into different situations.
Sum up your book in a tweet (140 characters).
A modern day woman, an alien warrior, a ruthless species in a tale of strength, integrity, valor and love set on the far side of the Galaxy.
What’s next for you?
I’m currently about half way through a first draft of my next book, another science fiction romance, though this time set on Earth in the near future.
ALIEN, MINE
THE BLUTHEN HAVE ONE CONSUMING PASSION: THEMSELVES.IN THEIR EXPANSION ACROSS THE GALAXY, THEY WILL GO TO ANY LENGTHS TO DOMINATE SPECIES THEY ENCOUNTER.
Torn from modern day Earth and stranded on the far side of the Galaxy, Sandrea Fairbairn must use every particle of courage she possesses to adjust to her new life and live for tomorrow/a new day. Eugen Mhartak, a general in the Tri-Race Alliance Army, refuses to bow to the merciless Bluthen. Haunted by the loss of far too many innocent lives he has vowed to drive the ruthless invaders from Alliance space.
The strength and valour of Eugen Mhartak attracts Sandrea as no man ever has, but she struggles to read the enigmatic general’s heart. Determined to help him triumph over the Bluthen she uncovers a diabolical plot against the Alliance.
Drawn by the courage and exotic beauty of Sandrea, Mhartak battles to overcome the barriers of cross-cultural differences that separate them and claim her ardent interest. He must conquer his deepest fears to be the man she needs. When his principles are betrayed by his own government and he is faced with the impossible prospect of taking Sandrea’s life in order to save his home planet, Mhartak desperately searches for a way to keep safe both his world and the magnificent woman who has stolen his heart.

Hi Maria and Sandra. I love the sum up the books in 140 characters, such a challenge and Sandra has done it perfectly. I'm reading Alien Mine right now and think it's fab. My goal this year was to read more genres that I dont usually read and I must say, this and the others I've read over the year are just brill. I think I've been missing out. Best wishes for the release Sandra.

Great interview. I never really thought of science fiction romance as a separate genre, but I guess it makes perfect sense. And I always love a bit of romance in every story. 🙂

Hi Sandra, Hi Maria, I'm catching up on all my missed blogs and I have to stop by and say how much of a thrill it was to read Alien Mine. From the first page right thru till the end it was a non-stop adventure and I was captured right from the beginning. This isnt a usual genre for me and I cant wait to see what you have lined up next Sandra.
